There are many websites, videos and blogs disseminating medical knowledge for learners, be it medical students, residents, fellows and practitioners across the Globe. GlobeMedic will do it a little differently. It will attempt to impart knowledge based on the experience of practicing physicians and surgeons and other professionals, in an informal manner. Not all patient encounters, thoughtful diagnostic workups of patient problems, innovative and skillful procedures and surgeries make it to published case reports. This website will allow the busy practitioner to share his/her experience and procedure details for others to know about.
It is hoped that these informal blogs, demonstrations and discussions will help followers learn a thing or two and either apply in their practice or use the knowledge to answer questions posed in certification exams.
Another objective of this learning center is to share ideas, resources. opinions, news and other material that might help someone planning to go into practice or changing directions if they are already in practice. Residents completing their training are often faced with a number of choices (academic v/s non academic, group v/s solo, large group v/s hospital, small town v/s big city and so forth. We hope that by sharing our experiences, we may be able to offer some guidance. In this regard, I will be describing my own Private Practice Journey, divided into various parts and adding more as time goes on.
What we do not purport to do: We do not issue Continuing Medical Education Certificates. We do not have any financial gain. This effort is entirely voluntary and in the spirit of sharing knowledge and knowhow for the ultimate benefit of ailing humanity wherever they may be.
GlobeMedic started as an email group in 2003 when the eList of the Association of Pakistani-Descent Cardiologists of North America (APPNA) was closed down (a decision of the Association to avoid conflicts of interest and to dissociate from the views of the email writers). GlobeMedic provided a freelance email forum for the members and non members of APPNA to express their views and experiences. The group was initially under Yahoo Groups and when Yahoo decided to get out the email groups, it was transferred to Google Groups. It continues to exist as globemedic@googlegroups.com with Amin H. Karim as its founder and moderator.
Subsequently, a closed GlobeMedic Facebook group was established as well as a busy WhatsApp chat group where membership is by invitation.
All the above groups are open to physicians of Pakistani descent in any part of the Globe. There is no restriction as to which medical college they were trained in. Membership in these discussion groups is always free and there is no obligation to join any society.
